Explicit teaching is an instructional strategy used by teachers to meet the needs of their students and engage them in unambiguous, clearly articulated teaching.

Teachers plan for explicit teaching to make clear connections to curriculum content, explicit teaching to make clear connections to curriculum content, through a concise focus on the gradual and progressive steps that lead to a student's development and independent application of knowledge, understanding and skills associated with Indian Curriculum content.

Teachers use the Gradual release of responsibility model to guide instruction. The model facilitates the gradual release of learning from the teacher to the student. Teachers explicitly teach the focus lesson, then move into guided instruction with their students before scaffolding student understanding and skill development through collaborative learning, followed by independent learning.
